An Irish Night: Easter 1916 Remembered

Article adapted from: PerthSymphony

In March 2016, Perth Chamber Orchestra will perform a memorable program to mark the Centenary of the Irish Rising 1916: the historic rebellion that led to Ireland’s Independence.

In Easter Week, 1916, at the GPO building in Dublin, a group of brave men made a stand and started a rebellion, known as the ‘Easter Rising’, that would eventually led to Ireland’s independence from Britain. 100 years on, in 2016, the GPO building in Perth will play host to an evening of incredible music from Ireland and beyond, with poetry, dance and more, to tell the story of this historic event in an iconic venue. The Perth Chamber Orchestra, led by Paul Wright, will perform a Centenary concert at the GPO Building in Perth. Join them as they tell this remarkable story set to incredible Irish and classical music, with food and beverages reminiscent of Ireland (and yes, apparently they are planning to include Guinness on the beverage menu), dance, poetry, storytelling and more. Perth Chamber Orchestra's 'An Irish Night: Easter 1916 Remembered' is conducted by Jessica Gethin, led by Paul Wright and featuring guest artist Robert Zielinski. DATE: Wednesday 23rd March TIME: Doors: 6pm, Concert: 6.30pm VENUE: GPO Building, Forrest Place, Perth
